US band Vampire Weekend today unveiled two new singles from their forthcoming album Only God Was Above Us (2024), due for release on 5 April, entitled ‘Capricorn’ and ‘Gen-X Cops’. The tracks, now available on all digital platforms, are accompanied by video clips made from images of New York City in 1988.
The two singles, who are the presentation of which will be their fifth studio album, present a diametrically opposed sound between them. “Capricorn” begins with a soft melody that leads into a vibrant chorus with guitars full of distortion, while “Gen-X Cops” is an accelerated cong by a signature guitar that blends seamlessly with Ezra Koenig’s distinctive vocals.
