As every year, during the first week of May, the organisation of Sónar held a press conference today at the Antiga Fàbrica de Estrella Damm in Barcelona to present the 31st edition of the festival, which will take place in Barcelona from 13 to 15 June 2024.
Sónar founders and co-directors Ricard Robles and Enric Palau, and Sónar curator Antònia Folguera, led a press conference, and said that the idea was for the festival to be “more expansive, bigger and to occupy larger spaces in the city”. One example is the collaboration with the British duo The Chemical Brothers and the digital art of Smith&Lyallwho, from 24 May to the end of July, will present a show at Casa Batlló based on the idea of ‘translating the iconography of The Chemical Brothers into an immersive world of six faces’, or on the other handsynergies with OFFSónar at the Poble Espanyol or the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. for the creation of the second edition of +RAIN, the artificial intelligence generated film festival.
In terms of music, and based on the the big names in this year’s line-up, which was closed last February, are Air, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin, Jessie Ware, Miss Kittin or Paul Kalkbrenner as well as unique shows such as Reel-2-reel by Kerri Chandler, where the North American artist plays only open reel tapes, or the commitment to shows in which the choreographic element is fundamental, such as the shows by Lee Gamble with choreographer Candela Capitán or the Hakke show by Blackhaine and Gabber Eleganza, where we will relive the hardcore dances of the 90s.
Tickets for individual nights at Sónar by night, season tickets, 2-night tickets and individual tickets for Sónar by day are available on the festival’s official website.
