Canada’s METZ have just announced the release date of their long-awaited fifth studio album, Up On Gravity Hill (2024), which will be released on 12th April on Sub Pop. For now, we know that the album will be produced by Seth Manchester, who worked with the band on their last LP Atlas Vending (2020), will contain 8 songs and will feature appearances by Black Mountain’s Amber Webber and multi-instrumentalist Owen Pallett.
As a first taste of the album, the Toronto band have released the first two singles from the album, “Entwined (Street Light Buzz)” and “99“. According to singer Alex Edkins “Stylistically and thematically, the two songs could not be more different. ‘Entwined (Street Light Buzz)’ is a song about the deep connection people can have with each other and how we carry people with us forever, even after death. 99′ is about the catastrophe of the corporate greed and the bottom line thinking that is dominating modern society. Anything for a dollar is the message being sent to the younger generations”..
They have also confirmed new dates for the European tour to promote the album, which will have a first phase of festivals in August, including the Canela Party 2024 in Torremolinos, and a second phase of concert halls that will take them to a large part of Europe. The tour will kick off in Rennes on 2nd November and, after visiting various cities in France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium, will end at the Village Underground in London on 29th November. There are no confirmed dates in Spain at the moment.
