Ireland’s Fontaines D.C. have announced the first details of their fourth studio album, entitled ROMANCE (2024), which will be released on 23 August via XL Recordings/Everlasting Popstock.
The album, described by the band as “Their most confident, inventive and sonically adventurous album to date” was produced by James Ford, a member of Simian Mobile Disco and trendy producer behind a large part of the discography of Arctic Monkeys, Memento Mori by Depeche Mode or The Ballad of Darren by Blur.
In the press release accompanying the release, Grian Chatten‘s band explain that after their last North American tour with the Arctic Monkeys, the five band members decided to explore where they wanted to go as a band separately. In the autumn of 2023, after a month of writing together and three weeks of pre-production in a North London studio, they joined James Ford for a month to finish the album at a chateau near Paris..
As an introduction, they give us “Starbuster“, which seems to move away from their post-punk roots, in a video directed by Aube Perrie, who has recently worked with Harry Styles, The Hives or Megan Thee Stallion.
