Promoter Last Tour has announced the cancellation of the 2024 edition of the Festival of Cala Mijas for “repeated and serious breaches” by Mijas Town Council, such as non-payment of the sums agreed as sponsorship for the 2023 edition, the lack of conditioning and the lack of facilities of the venue.
Festival Cala Mijas, which was a huge success in its first two editions, featuring Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Nick Cave and The Strokes and had an estimated impact of €22 million in 2023, this year’s event was scheduled to take place from 29 to 31 August 2024.
Mijas Town Council has responded to Last Tour’s accusations, stating that the promoter has also failed to fulfil its obligations. The City Council assures that it has paid all invoices that were correctly presented and that it has complied with all the clauses of the contract. The Council has also criticised Last Tour for not having presented the poster for the 2024 edition and for not having justified the money invested. Last Tour said it had tried to reach an agreement with the council, but that it had not been possible.
