Low festival 2014 – 25th July 2014 (Benidorm)

31 July 20143 min read

This year Low Festival changed name (Low Cost to Low, but can be understood by the increase in prices compared to previous years) and also organizers, ubiquitous Live Nation. I guess like all at the first time, things did not go as expected, and after a series of misfortunes (duplicate entries, lathes without computer connection) we got enter Low Festival. In my fifth edition of Low, I did not expect things would change much with respect to other issues, and effectively so, resulting in the festival almost an identical copy of the previous, similar groups, same environment, and attempt to do it all so well sustainable, and modern that crown it all, resulting in a somewhat bland festival. New this year were a couple of more stages, Wiko and Red Bull Sounds From Valencia Scenarios, which as its name suggests brought a good sample of the Valencian scene.

Our compressed work schedule on Friday started with Modelo de Respuesta Polar on Wiko stage, being so difficult listen to them, due to just in front of them (although a little bit lower) Triangulo de Amor Bizarro started their gig.  The truth is that the desire to see the Galicians was high, and they did not disappoint, even though the promptly schedule caused the Matusalem stage seems empty and the people in it were still present settling. In any case, we still could enjoy a great setlist that include songs of their last 2 albums Año Santo and Estrella Mística.

After a show from Ivan Ferreiro extremely unwise, especially vocally, we discovered one of the surprises of the festival, the Madrid band John Gray, who in the Wiko stage surprised those present with the elegance of their mix of R&B and soul with electronic. As the festival was too quiet, Swedes The Hives did wake up the audience with their impressive show, with constant drops into the photo pit, countless quotes in Spanish and very correct musically, not missing classics like “Main Offender” or “Hate to Say I Told you So”.

Note: Due to the photo policy adopted by the festival, which has denied the majority of the media any request for a photo pass, it has been impossible to make our usual photo galleries. From here, we want to show that we reject this policy, which greatly reduces the quality of the material we offer.

Leon Benavente, with a very dedicated Edu Baos, gave a great concert in the Matusalen stage, although they were a little weak vocally, they managed to transmit the illusion they were playing with to the rest of the audience. Blood Red Shoes were a little more distant, although their live show is very powerful. They closed an interesting first day of the festival.
