US band DIIV have just released their long-awaited new album on social media, their first in five years after the majestic Deceiver (2019).
The band, led by Zachary Cole Smith, have released Frog In Boiling Water (2024), produced by Chris Coady (Beach House, Future Islands), which includes some of their latest singles such as ‘Everyone Out‘.
Speaking about the album, the band say that both the title and the themes of the album refer to ‘The Boiling Frog’ from the book ‘The Story of B’ by Daniel Quinn. “If you put a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will naturally try desperately to get out. But if you gently place it in a pot of lukewarm water and turn the heat down, the frog will sink into a peaceful slumber, just like one of us in a hot bath, and soon, with a smile on its face, it will let itself be boiled without resistance until it dies. We understand the metaphor to be about the slow, sick and overwhelmingly banal collapse of society under terminal capitalism, the brutal reality that we have perhaps come to accept as normal. This is the boiling water and we’re the frogs. “
The Brooklyn band have also announced a European tour that will kick off in Stockholm (Sweden) on 16 November and end in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on 15 December, after visiting Denmark, Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, Belgium, France and Luxembourg. In the case of Spain, they will perform at Sala BUT in Madrid on 25 November and at Sala Apolo in Barcelona on Tuesday 26 November. Tickets for both concerts, priced at 28 euros plus booking fee, will go on sale at DICE on Monday 27th May at 10am.
