Today we wanted to speak about a group of Valencia called Groovettes. The quartet formed by Santi Miquel (vocals and bass), Quique Ros (guitars and vocals), Gerard Martinez (guitars and keyboards) and Robert Martinez (drums and percussion) published in June its first LP El circo de las marionetas edited by Maldito Digital label, after released in 2011 their EP “Pequeña mañana de gloria“. LP is produced by the band along with help in mixtures of Vicente Sabater (Piratas, Presuntos Implicados, Seguridad Social…) and Pau Paredes in a recording made at Millenia estudios between January and February 2012.
El Circo de las Marionetas contains eleven songs with a revival and psychedelic accent clearly influenced by British bands like Oasis, Beatles, The Small Faces, etc. … On their sound surprise powerful rock style, which include distorted guitars close to The Who or The Monkees, or the mix of Hendrix’s psychedelia with a very distinctive nasal voice, which brings to mind even the best The Jam, as well as the logical comparisons with the last group of Liam Gallagher Beady Eye. A good example about that are songs as “Hotel, Marionetas” or the song that opens the album, “Otra Vuelta”. However, we can also enjoy some more melodic songs, reminiscent of the early Beatles, who reappears in this great song with catchy chorus as “Mañana no va a llover” or theme that closes the album “L.U.C.D.A“.
